The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake - Can you say "the particular sadness of a disappointing book"? I expected so much from this book - it has a Sarah Ruhl-esque premise, there's food writing, family drama - and instead I found something rather hollow. Little development in any sense. The only time the book takes off is when Rose is describing the experiences of eating various dishes - those pieces are great. Otherwise, it felt a bit like a book-under-saran-wrap or a book-on-valium. Slow, hazy, withdrawn behind something vaguely see-through but not quite.Full Review: http://wp.me/pGVzJ-fk
