A terrific story, fascinating character developments, and a whole lot of really really smart/thought-provoking tangents that you can either pick up or leave alone. The story itself (and the beautiful art) are enough to provide plenty of enjoyment - but if you let yourself think about the things that are said/done, you end up with a whole secondary level of engagement with the text. I'm still one of those people who is astonished when someone says "engagement with text" when relating to a graphic novel - despite having read some of the very best and most important of our time - and so this has been a truly rewarding experience thus far.
