It's really more of a 3.5 - this is the best of the series thus far, with a lot of the early-novel kinks worked out and the characters all well-enough established that they can take a running start at all of the adventure ahead of them. I appreciated the backstory reminders and the further exploration of the witchy history of this particular literary universe - and I liked the subtle shifting of expectations by putting what you think will be the big fight about 100 pages in.
