The Savage Detectives

The Savage Detectives - Roberto BolaƱo, Natasha Wimmer A great way to start the summer, literarily, although I didn't really actually LIKE the book, per se. I didn't dislike it either. I just found it... like a car ride down a stretch of lonely highway, rolling along of its own accord and not really settling on anything in particular. It's a story about growing up, about who we love and why, about idols, about art... but it's About Those Things instead of just being about them. It's self-conscious. It's also too long and too unnecesarily experimental considering there's really no payoff. I just felt utterly 'eh' about the experience of reading this novel, once I closed it and weighed it all together.More about it at RB: http://wp.me/pGVzJ-p5
